Julie Rivera Horwin
Julie Rivera Horwin taught in the Arizona public school system for over 20 years. Her commitment, however, in supporting public education and its students and teachers has never wavered since leaving the classroom. Today, she serves as a director on the National Education Board of Directors (NEA), the largest union in the United States representing three million members. Prior to being elected to this position, she held leadership positions for the NEA and the Arizona Education Association (AEA).
Julie consults and volunteers on various electoral and ballot initiative campaigns. She worked with the Democratic National Committee to organize the members of the retired arms of AFL-CIO labor unions in Georgia to help re-elect Senator Warnock in 2022. She founded the Arizona Retirement Security Coalition (ARSC), working to protect the public service pension system from attacks - the last defined benefit pension system for workers in Arizona. Julie also founded Fair Districts Arizona, a nonprofit training institute to coach potential candidates through the nominating process for the Independent Redistricting Commission, committed to an honest, independent commission upholding public confidence in the integrity of the redistricting process.
A trained facilitator of Organizational Change, Leadership Development, and Consensus Building and Collaboration, Julie also develops training modules for leaders in organizations and businesses here in the United States and abroad. Prior to Covid 19, this included conducting cross-cultural training for UBS Bank in the Netherlands and their U.S. counterparts, mentoring cohort groups of women from around the world who were on the executive track. She designed and implemented one of the largest changes to the UBS international customer relations system with the Director of Creative Programs, U.S.
In addition to her role as faculty and staff, Julie is a founding Board member of LFC and has served as a faculty coach and trainer since the organization’s inception.
